"It is better to be alone than to be in bad company."
What this quote means for me is that being alone you know your own actions and it is less likely less chances to do something bad that way you stay out of trouble. For example if someone is offering you drugs and everyone is doing it is better to stay away because what if the cops see you and arrest all the people at least you won't be in trouble because you didn't use it. This quote doesn't mean you don't have no friends you just need to know when to get away. it means that you can hangout with them just don't do the wrong whenever they all choose it. The best thing to do is be yourself and do/choose the right but still have friends.
